Whether it’s for a planned date night, something unexpected or just for your sanity, adding a babysitting budget category will be your lifesaver. Keep a list of items you’re running low on so you can plan ahead and always have money to cover what you need. And guess what? You use them every day, so these aren’t monthly expenses that should surprise you. They’re not necessarily the most exciting monthly expenses to put in a budget, but household items are a part of life. Toothpaste, shampoo, dishwasher detergent, paper towels. Umbrella Policy (if you’ve got a net worth of $500,000 or more).Long-Term Care Insurance (if you’re age 60 or older). When budgeting your monthly expenses, don’t forget to include monthly premiums for these insurances you can’t do without: Yeah, insurance can be kind of boring, and it might feel irritating to spend money on it, but paying for insurance is a must. Think of it like a shield-insurance helps protect all the things you love and will be your saving grace when life happens. While you may not have some of these bills, this list should help you get the wheels turning as you create your own budget. The rest of these monthly expenses aren’t in a perfect order, but they’re a bunch of common things people spend money on every month. Okay, we’re past giving, saving and the Four Walls. This category includes gas, public transit fees, routine maintenance-anything you typically pay in a month for transportation. Whew, right? It adds up quick! To keep your housing costs from hogging most of your budget, keep these expenses to 25% or less of your take-home pay. Don’t forget insurance, property taxes and HOA fees. Just including your rent or mortgage payment isn’t enough when budgeting for your housing costs. To be safe, budget on the higher side in each of these budget lines-and if you don’t end up needing it, throw the extra at your debt (if you have any!) or your savings. Frigid winter temps? Put on some fuzzy socks. (Nobody likes to sweat while they sleep!). Blazing hot summer? Add a little extra to this category. Include all the services that keep your house running: electricity, water, natural gas or propane, and trash services. Remember, these utility bills might change from month to month. Use coupons, eat what you have at home, start meal planning-it all adds up in a month. It’s the number one category where people overspend (so easy to do, right?). We put groceries as its own line, apart from restaurants, because you have to eat-but you don’t have to eat out.Īnd if you’re looking to find extra money in your budget, food is the place to start. Once you’re out of debt, you’ll save up 3–6 months of expenses in case of a bigger emergency, like an unexpected sickness or job loss.īefore you budget for any of the other monthly expenses, cover what we call the Four Walls-aka the basic necessities you need to survive: food, utilities, shelter and transportation. If you’re in debt, start by saving a $1,000 starter emergency fund (we call this Baby Step 1)-then pause saving and throw everything else (after your necessary monthly expenses) at crushing that debt. Not only does a padded savings account give you peace of mind, but it also helps you plan for big purchases. Savingĭepending on what Baby Step you’re on, you might need to make saving a priority. Whether you give to your church or your favorite charity or organization, start your month by giving 10% of your income to a specific cause dear to you. Not just because we like to be a little weird (we do!), but because when we give, it takes the focus off of what we’re lacking and shines a light on helping others. And yes, it’s the first thing we budget for each month. But hear us out.Īround here, we’re all about being generous. It may seem backward to think about giving as a common monthly expense because there’s already so much in life to pay for. Of course, monthly expenses vary from person to person and situation to situation, but there are some common monthly expenses to think about when you start a basic budget. That's why you need a plan, aka a budget.Īnd that starts with taking a look at your basic monthly expenses. The truth is, you’re way more confident- and you enjoy life more-when you’re prepared for it. Would you give a big presentation at work without preparing at all? What about your wedding day? You wouldn’t just show up without a plan and hope it all worked out, right? Not in a million years. 8/8/2023 0 Comments Port discovery and baltimoreThere was a child licking every block in the quiet area and then throwing them around. I am confident this place is a concentration of germs so that helps. What I loved the most is that sanitizers were abundant. Free lockers and coat room in the snack area. Not nearly as grand as the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, but I think nothing can beat that ever. This was definitely a step up from the National Children’s Museum in DC. This is a lot of hands on learning and fun, trust me the kids will love it, ours did. When we purchased our tickets they had to different time frames to be able to enter and it looks like they only sell a certain amount of tickets so to ensure entry I recommend you lock in your time slot. Strongly suggest you purchase your ticket online to ensure admittance. The museum also has area for kids of all ages-toddlers up to about 12 years old. In another area they were able to put their artistic skills to the test. In this area the kids were able to work at the restaurant and learn about how to work and prepare the meal they were serving. Another area they enjoyed was the diner/restaurant area. They loved being able to climb all the way to the top and then jumping on the slide. The favorite station for the grandkids was the climbing course. We essentially spent about 4 hours there and could have easily spent another 3 hours. From the minute we got there they were going from one exhibit area to another. They had so much fun being able to do and learn by being hands on. We took our grandkids and they absolutely loved it. If I could give this museum 10 stars I would. 8/8/2023 0 Comments Homebridge scriptableHomebridge was originally created by Nick Farina. In the meantime, Homebridge is a fun way to get a taste of the future, for those who just can't bear to wait until "real" HomeKit devices are on the market. When they do, this project will be obsolete, and I hope that happens soon. Technically, the device manufacturers should be the ones implementing the HomeKit API. You must change it via the Home app as well. Once an accessory has been added to the Home app, changing its name via Homebridge won't be automatically reflected in iOS.You can however run your plugins as a Child Bridge or run Multiple Homebridge Instances to get around this limitation. One bridge can only expose 150 accessories due to a HomeKit limit. To fix this, turn airplane mode on and back off to flush the DNS cache. iOS DNS cache has gone stale or gotten misconfigured.Swap between the Bonjour HAP and Ciao mDNS Advertiser options.Common Issues Home App Says Accessory Already Added This is very useful when you are already using your development machine to host a "real" Homebridge instance (with all your accessories) that you don't want to disturb. Run this command inside your plugin project folder so your global install of Homebridge can discover it: When writing your plugin, you'll want Homebridge to load it from your development directory instead of publishing it to npm each time. There are many existing plugins you can study you might start with the Homebridge Example Plugins or a plugin that already implements the device type you need. The Homebridge Plugin Template project provides a base you can use to create your own platform plugin. The website contains the Homebridge API reference, available service and characteristic types, and plugin examples. This is why, for instance, the suggested name for the Sonos accessory is "Speakers". Even if you name it "Sonos" and say "Siri, turn on the Sonos", Siri will probably just launch the Sonos app instead. For instance, if you name your Sonos device "Radio" and try saying "Siri, turn on the Radio" then Siri will probably start playing an iTunes Radio station on your phone. One final thing to remember is that Siri will almost always prefer its default phrase handling over HomeKit devices. However, realize that Siri is a cloud service, and iOS may need some time to synchronize your device information with iCloud. Once your device has been added to HomeKit, you should be able to tell Siri to control your devices. If the bridge does not have any accessories yet, you may receive a message saying Additional Set-up Required, this is ok, as you add plugins they will show up in the Home app without the need to pair again (except for Cameras and TVs).Ĭameras and most TV devices are exposed as separate accessories and each needs to be paired separately. Tap Add Accessory, then scan the QR code shown in the Homebridge UI or your Homebridge logs.Setup Homebridge on Red Hat, CentOS or Fedora Linux.Setup Homebridge on Debian or Ubuntu Linux.Setup Homebridge on a Raspberry Pi (Raspbian). The Homebridge Wiki contains step-by-step instruction on how to install Node.js and setup Homebridge and the Homebridge UI as a service so it automatically starts on boot: HomeKit communities can also be found on both Discord and Reddit. The official Homebridge Discord server and Reddit community are where users can discuss Homebridge and ask for help. You can explore all available plugins at the NPM website by searching for the keyword homebridge-plugin. For instance, using just some of the available plugins, you can say: Since Siri supports devices added through HomeKit, this means that with Homebridge you can ask Siri to control devices that don't have any support for HomeKit at all. It supports Plugins, which are community-contributed modules that provide a basic bridge from HomeKit to various 3rd-party APIs provided by manufacturers of "smart home" devices. Homebridge is a lightweight NodeJS server you can run on your home network that emulates the iOS HomeKit API. 8/8/2023 0 Comments Avast phone number for issuesDespite their utility, we believe Avast’s tools fall short compared to competitors like Norton or Bitdefender, which provide superior performance enhancements and extra features.Īvast delivers basic identity theft safeguards, scanning the dark web for compromised email-linked accounts. If you're doing anything else, you'll want to target -60 dBm and below. Even a connection of -70 dBm will be okay if you're just doing some light browsing and sending emails. Of course, while these technical measurements of signal strength do help, the real answer to whether your signal strength is good or not is “does it work for what you use it for?”.Ī signal strength of -67 dBm will give you just about what you need, so long as you aren't streaming in HD or performing latency-sensitive tasks. If you can connect to a network with this signal, you deserve an award. Your signal is likely unreliable to the state of extreme frustration. Not a great signal, unsuited for many tasks. It'll work for most of your tasks, but likely not perfectly. Here's where we start to cross the threshold from “good” to just reliable. Starting to get into the “good” territory. You're probably sitting right next to the router. Here's what you can expect to see at different measurements (via eyeaas): Outside of the bar system, WiFi signal strength is typically measured in dBm, or decimal milliwatts. Two bars indicate an acceptable level, where you'll start to see some slowdown, and one bar is likely to seriously affect your connection. Well, in Windows 10, three and four bars represent a good, solid signal. We're all used to the bar system when it comes to signal, but how low can it get before it starts to seriously affect your connection? We're going to walk through many options to do just that, but first, it's worth talking about what defines a good and bad WiFi signal strength. If you're experiencing slow internet on WiFi, you may want to check your WiFi signal strength in Windows 10. The kicker, however, is that only stands true if you have good WiFi signal strength. These days, with a good router and wireless chip, your internet speed and latency can get very close to your trusty cable. 9 The Best Wi-Fi Analyzer apps for Windows to Check and Optimize Signal StrengthĪs technology progresses, the gap between wireless networking and wired ethernet connections is closing.8 How to Perform a WiFi Signal Test (with Percentages) in PowerShell.7 How to Perform a WiFi Signal Test (with Percentages) in Command Prompt.6 How to Check WiFi Signal Strength in Network Connections.5 How to View WiFi Strength in Network and Sharing Center.4 How to View the Signal Quality of your Wireless Network in WiFi Settings. 3 How to Check Current WiFi Signal Strength in Windows 10 Network Settings.2 Check the WiFi Signal Strength of All Networks in Range Using the Fly-out Menu.1 How to View WiFi Signal Strength via the Windows 10 WiFi Icon. The 5 GHz signal doesn’t extend as far as a 2.4 GHz, but it has more options to bypass interference problems. When doing so, look for one that supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi signals. If your router is older, it might be time to upgrade. If you have plaster walls, consider moving the router as close to the center of the home as possible. Either your walls are very thick and dense, or your router is old and unable to broadcast very far. If you step a room or two away from the router and find you’re quickly losing the signal, it’s time to consider the age of your router and its placement. Check for interference, consider changing channels, or upgrade to a router that supports 5 GHz (or even 6Ghz) if your current one doesn’t. For instance, if you can reach the edges of your home and still see a 60 dBm signal (or most of the bars), then any issues you’re having aren’t Wi-Fi-strength related. Once you know how strong your network is, you’ll have a better idea of what to do to improve it. You’ll see dBm measurements in the RSSI entry. Hold the option key and click on the Wi-Fi symbol. On Mac, you don’t need to download any program or app if you want to measure the connected network. Like on a Mac and iPhone, you’ll find dBm measurements listed under the RSSI entry. Just unzip and double-click the EXE file. The program is free, easy to use, and doesn’t require installation. In the past, we recommended NirSoft’s WifiInfoView to inspect Wi-Fi channels, and it also gets the nod for checking Wi-Fi strength.
